Meet Glenna Hecht: Finding Connection in Dementia Care
October 23, 2026

Coming Friday, October 30, 2026: What can connection look like when dementia changes the way someone you love experiences the world? In episode 157 of A Time to Care: The Caregivers Podcast, Isabel Melgarejo welcomes author and speaker Glenna Hecht for a conversation about play, presence, and finding moments of joy in dementia caregiving.
As the release approaches, we’re introducing the woman behind How Old Are You Today? and the personal caregiving story she’ll bring to the conversation.
Meet Glenna Hecht
Glenna Hecht is an author, speaker, and consultant whose work centers on how people communicate and connect. As a national speaker, she brings humor, honesty, and practical insight to conversations about relationships and the challenges people carry.
Her perspective on dementia is deeply personal. Caring for her mother led Glenna to look for ways to relate as memory, communication, and familiar interactions changed. A simple question about her mother’s age became a game that helped create space for stories and shared moments.
That experience inspired her memoir, How Old Are You Today? Dementia, A Mother, A Daughter, and The Game That Transformed Their Lives. It tells the story of their relationship and the role curiosity and play took in their caregiving journey. A conversation about connection, play, and presence
The upcoming episode, Dementia Caregiving: How Play Can Create Connection, Joy & Presence, will explore Glenna’s experience of moving from trying to fix what was happening toward meeting her mother in the moment.
For family caregivers, those everyday interactions can carry a great deal of emotion. This conversation makes room for questions about staying close as a relationship changes, approaching familiar moments with curiosity, and giving yourself grace along the way.
Glenna’s story offers one caregiver’s perspective. Every person and family is different, and the episode is an opportunity to listen, reflect, and feel connected to someone else who has walked a caregiving path.
